In a tragic turn of events, television actor Lalit Manchanda, known for his appearances in popular shows such as Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah, CID, Crime Patrol, and Savdhaan India, died by suicide at his residence in Prahlad Nagar, Meerut, on Monday night. He was 48.
According to Ashok Kumar, Station House Officer (SHO) of Lisari Gate police station, “As soon as we received the information, a team reached the actor’s house and sent the deceased’s body for post-mortem. Prima facie, the actor died by suicide owing to depression and financial crisis.”
The incident came to light on Tuesday morning when Manchanda was found hanging from a ceiling fan by family members. Police stated that the actor had recently returned from Mumbai and was reportedly struggling with mental health issues due to ongoing financial difficulties.
“No formal complaint has been filed in the matter,” the SHO added.
Lalit Manchanda had carved a niche for himself in Indian television through supporting roles and episodic appearances. His sudden demise has left fans and colleagues in shock, once again drawing attention to the mental health challenges faced by many in the entertainment industry.
